Another addition to my Alexander McQueen collection got delivered by the mailman a few days ago. I found this eyeshadow from the Fall 2007 Alexander McQueen for M.A.C. collection on eBay. There’s only a few items from this collection still to be found online.

The color is called Haunting and it’s a bright blueish turquoise. I tried it on but it’s just not a color that suits me, hence: no pictures. I knew this upfront but I still think it’s pretty nonetheless, and since it was a limited edition I just had to grab it.

Why yes, yet another Alexander McQueen purchase! A ring this time.

Alexander McQueen twin skull ring

I already had one McQueen ring, the white enameled band set with black skulls, and I’d been wanting a second ring to wear on my other hand. Symmetry is everything, after all. So finally I caved in and ordered this one from alexandermcqueen.com.

It’s the twin skull ring with the McQ logo embossed in one skull and with Swarovski crystal eyes. It’s made of solid brass with an anti-allergic silver finish, and it wraps around your finger.

My birthday was a little over a week ago and my boyfriend surprised me in the most amazing way possible: he arranged a four day visit to London! He’d booked the flights, the hotel and a taxi to pick us up from the airport. He even called my boss to arrange time off from work without me ever knowing. I have quite honestly never been more overwhelmed in my life, it was such an incredibly sweet and thoughtful (and grand!) gesture. ♥

We spent our days riding the tube all across the city, did some sightseeing, enjoyed the weather, architecture and the scenery, and of course seized the opportunity to do some shopping. One cannot visit London and not shop! On our second day we visited the Alexander McQueen UK flagship store, located at 4-5 Old Bond Street near the Piccadilly Circus underground station. I was still rather in shock by everything that was happening at this point, so unfortunately I completely forgot to take pictures of the store. I found this store to be nicer looking than the one in Las Vegas. It was larger too, featuring womenswear and accessories on the ground floor and menswear at the lower level. The staff was very friendly and funny, and provided that little bit of extra care one would expect from a designer label.

The bangle I purchased is the 3D enameled skull bangle in black and silver. It’s a tight fit over the hand, but hangs from the wrist loosely. The bangle is made from enamel coated brass with an anti-allergic silver finish and features a 3D skull detail.

I love it! And I love it for several reasons. One being that it’s a beautiful bracelet, and secondly because it will always remind me of our London trip. ♥

Alas, our vacation has come to an end. We got back from Las Vegas a few days ago, and jetlag is still playing quite a number on me. It was absolutely amazing though, best vacation of my life so far. I could tell all sorts of stories and show a ton of pictures, but since this blog is all about fashion I will focus on just that. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, as the saying goes. ;)

On our second day in Las Vegas, we stumbled upon the Alexander McQueen boutique more or less by accident. We didn’t plan it for that day, but since we were close by we had to pay a visit.

Alexander McQueen boutique at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas

The boutique is located along the Wynn Esplanade shopping area at the Wynn Hotel, on 3131 Las Vegas Boulevard South.
This is the second largest Alexander McQueen boutique in the United States. The store features a range of garments for men and women, plus a variety of eye gear and accessories. The store itself is very spacious, streamlined, white and clean, minimal yet bold. Display fixtures are suspended from vaulted ceilings that seamlessly curve into walls and the polished terrazzo floor. Lighting is integrated in diffuse light boxes.

I have to say, the store didn’t make a terribly huge impression on me. It was great to finally visit an official McQueen store, but compared to some of the other stores surrounding it (Chanel and Dior for instance, had beautiful window displays and looked far more dramatic and luxurious), it seemed a bit simple and bare. The personnel was very nice though, younger and edgier than at other stores.

Even though I had expected to be much more wowed by everything, it was still great to see some of my favorite McQueen items close up. I didn’t purchase anything, as the items I liked were a little above budget. The only things I did buy on this trip were some touristy t-shirts and some make-up by Kat von D, which I will write about in another post.

January 25, 2012

The first round of Paris Fashion Week has almost finished and this season’s haute couture collections have been a bit disappointing for me. I was looking forward to the Spring 2012 couture collections of Givenchy, Iris van Herpen and Jean Paul Gaultier in particular, but none had any pieces that thrilled me. Versace was bordering on something I’d like, but it was still a smidge off. I’ll be holding my breath for the ready to wear Fall collections that will be presented at the end of February.

Instead, today I’ll pay some attention to the Christmas presents I received from my wonderful boyfriend last month.

Kingdom perfume by Alexander McQueen

First up, is the Kingdom perfume by Alexander McQueen. I’ve read varying reviews of this perfume. It seems you either love it or hate it, depending on your body chemistry and how this perfume works on your skin. Me personally, I adore this scent. It’s very sexy yet noble and statuesque at the same time. It’s more androgynous than feminine, strong and quite grown up. I found the following descriptions very fitting:

  • “When it finally settles this soft, rosy deep drama takes place. The animalistic anger is still there, but it interacts with something that reminds me of a stale castle hallway draped with dusty velvet. There’s something blood like in it too, metallic-y and cold, that works just lovely with the rose. A great scent that needs to be worn by the right person.”
  • “Kingdom is artistic. It’s extremely strange. It’s polarizing. It’s shocking in its blatant sexuality. It was doomed to failure from the instant it was born.”
  • “Kingdom is dirty but in a more sensual, warm body way as opposed to an overtly sexual way. I wouldn’t even call it animalistic, it is distinctly human and carnal.”

As for the notes, the top notes are Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian mandarin, orange and Tunisian neroli. The middle notes consist of rose, Indian jasmine, cumin and ginger. The base is French vanilla and Indonesian myrrh.

All I can really say is that it smells sort of Oriental and spicy, and it’s meant for a daring few (hence the discontinuation, I’m sure).
The bottle is heart shaped and absolutely beautiful. In conclusion, the note that’s hidden on the inside of the box sums it all up perfectly: “Pierce my heart again”. Lovely.

And secondly I got the classic black and white chiffon skull scarf, also by Alexander McQueen. Ah! Need I say more..? My boyfriend is the best. ♥
