The Fragrances of Leather by Thierry Mugler

February 6, 2013

At the end of last year Thierry Mugler released The Fragrances of Leather, a collection of four limited edition fragrances in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Thierry Mugler Parfums. Especially for this occasion, Angel, A*Men, Alien and Womanity had all been given the leather treatment, having been infused with tailor made leather pieces in metal caskets for a period of four weeks. These brand new interpretations aim to enhance the original compositions through the prisms of leather. Alien is one of my all time favorite fragrances, so I was excited to try out this new spin on the original.

First off, the stunning newly shaped bottle deserves a special mention. The bottle resembles the shape of a diamond and is set in a silver claw like grip. I really love how this looks.
Then on to the scent. The top note is sambac jasmine, at the middle we find cashmeran and solar notes, and the base notes are white amber and leather. The amber notes are magnified by the leathery effect and are rounded off by gourmand dry fruit accents. The leather intensifies the fruitiness of the original Alien, making this quite a fresh and soft take on the leather accord. It doesn’t resemble the original Alien much at all in my opinion, but I do quite love it and wear it all the time.

Meadowlark Cat Ears Ring

January 23, 2013

I was never a cat person at all, quite the opposite in fact. I don’t know how or when it happened, but somehow over time these feelings changed and the idea of having a feline around the house just started to feel right. So this last August, I got my first kitten. He’s a black and white European Shorthair and I named him Bowie. After some time had passed I strongly felt like Bowie needed a little companion, so in November I added his sister to the family as well. I named her Jade. Getting the little ones was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made, I can’t even begin to tell you how deeply I adore these two little creatures. They make me smile every single day and bring me so much joy. ♥

Bowie and Jade

Things haven’t exactly been smooth sailings though. Jade was sick when I got her, but thankfully she got better very quickly after an antibiotics treatment. Then in December, Bowie suddenly got sick and had to have surgery. It was a very heavy surgery for such a small and young animal, and the ten following days were some of the most stressful of my entire life. His recovery didn’t go as smoothly as it should have, and I was scared for his life a number of times. It’s honestly one of the absolute worst feelings in the world… I barely slept or ate, and was an emotional nervous wreck during this whole time. He pulled through though! And he’s back to his naughty, inquisitive and lovable self again.

While all of this was happening I came across a picture of a cat ears ring on Instagram, which given the circumstances instantly struck a chord with me. I promised myself that as soon as both cats were all healthy again, I would get it for myself as a way to celebrate and to close off a very rough period.

Meadowlark Cat Ears Ring

The ring is a simple 5 mm sterling silver band with two little cat ears. It’s made by New Zealand based company Meadowlark, and is part of a collection called The Love Cats. I love this reference to The Cure, who happen to be my all time favorite band. All these factors combined, there really couldn’t be a more perfect ring for me. I wear this ring every single day and it’s the most precious piece of jewelry that I own.

Thierry Mugler Kiss of an Angel Lipstick

January 16, 2013

One of Thierry Mugler’s Angel gift sets recently caught my eye. The Kiss of an Angel gift set features a refillable bottle of Angel eau de parfum spray and a limited edition sensorial lipstick.

Unfortunately I’m not a fan of Angel, which is why I didn’t get the whole set but tracked down the lipstick only. I do really love the design of this set’s perfume bottle though, which has a lip print left by an “angel’s kiss” on the back of the bottle. Such a wonderful touch.

But back to the lipstick. I’m always attracted to unusual lip colors and the Kiss of an Angel sensorial lipstick is definitely something different. This lipstick appears blue in the tube, but is supposed to morph into a wearable pink when you apply it to your lips. On me it turns a little more purple than pink, but it’s still a lovely color.
