Milly Demi Hologram Mini Bag

April 13, 2014

The holographic trend is still going strong, and I am certainly still a big fan. I got acquainted with the Milly brand some time ago and I fell instantly in love with their selection of holographic bags, so when I was looking for a small evening bag I of course had to pay a visit to their website.

The bag I picked is the Demi Hologram Mini Bag in the color turquoise. The bag is crafted in Italian hologram leather, has a top zip with interior pockets and also a side zip compartment, and measures 8.5 inches or 22 cm in length by 5.5 inches or 14 cm high. The snake chain crossbody strap is 23 inches or 58 cm long.

I love the color of this bag. It’s quite something else from my usual black, but I’ve grown very fond of turquoise, and combined with a holographic effect I just couldn’t resist. Besides the stunning color, this bag also meets all of my requirements (small, simple, crossbody strap and silver hardware) and is exactly the right size as it can fit my wallet, phone and some small necessities. The bare essentials, nothing more, nothing less. Exactly what I wanted!

Birthday Gifts 2014

April 12, 2014

My birthday was two weeks ago, and normally I don’t celebrate it at all, but this year I decided to change things up and celebrated it twice! I took my family out for dinner two weeks ago, and then last weekend I had dinner and drinks with some of my best friends. I really wasn’t expecting anything, but much to my excitement I got some really thoughtful gifts from everyone. Today I’m showing you the beauty and fashion related gifts I got.

Alien Eau Extraordinaire by Thierry Mugler

From my mom and dad I got the new Thierry Mugler fragrance, Alien Eau Extraordinaire. The gift set included a small candle and a gold nail polish as well. FYI: the candle smells so good!
Alien Eau Extraordinaire is a lighter, more summer appropriate interpretation of the original Alien. It’s described as an amber woody floral fragrance, and to me it smells quite fresh and citrussy, quite different from the original. The fragrance notes are neroli, bergamot tea, tiare flower, cashmeran wood, white amber and heliotrope.

Pandora Bracelet and A-England Nail Polish in Dorian Gray

My brother and sister-in-law got me a black leather Pandora bracelet with a silver charm of two cats, and my friend Sylwia gifted me an A-England nail polish in the color Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray is an intense pewter grey, forged with a deep golden shimmer.

All of the gifts I got, including the ones I’m not sharing, are so thoughtful! Alien by Thierry Mugler is one of my favorite fragrances, and I love (and more or less collect) anything in the fragrance series. The bracelet is a super cute keepsake referring to my own two little cats, and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite books so I love that reference as well. I feel very blessed to have people in my life who know me so well. ♥

Illamasqua Nail Varnish Update

March 24, 2014

It’s been a while since I purchased any new nail polishes, it’s probably been about six months or so. I feel like I’ve come to the point where I own every possible shade that I like, and if I were to spend money on another color, it would have to be something quite unique and different. That being said, I do still have a bit of a backlog to show you, so here’s an update on my Illamasqua nail polish collection.

Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Nudge, Noble, Rare, Unnatural and Pink Raindrops

The first polish on the left is Nudge, which is described as a mint ice-cream color. I have to say though that I don’t agree with this description as I don’t see any green in there? To me Nudge is closer to a pastel sky blue.

Next up is Noble, which is described as a turquoise blue, but again I don’t agree with Illamasqua’s definition of this color. Again I fail to see any green in this nail polish, I would say this is closer to a bright cyan blue.

Rare is a bright neon yellow, and one of my absolute favorite colors. I never thought I would love a yellow, or a neon, let alone a combination of the two!

Unnatural is a rich burgundy wine color. I’d say it leans a little more towards brown than red. It’s very similar to Chanel’s Malice but without the red shimmer.

And lastly, there is Pink Raindrops. This is a light cool pink nail polish with little flecks of opalescent glitter. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one yet. I felt like I needed to get it since it was inspired by the original (grey) Raindrops which I love, but pink is just not a color I’d naturally gravitate towards. I’m sure that at some point having a “normal” and “girly” color will come in handy though, you never know when a particular situation might present itself.
