L’Été Papillon de Chanel Collection

June 14, 2013

L’Été Papillon de Chanel, such a beautiful name for a makeup collection. This collection for Summer 2013 was inspired by the dazzling colors of butterflies, and I was immediately drawn to the electric shades of mascara, beautiful duochrome metallic nail polish and the platinum eyeshadow pen.

Chanel Le Vernis in Azuré, Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Lime Light and Aqua Blue,
and Stylo Eyeshadow in Moon River

The eyecatcher of the collection for me, is definitely the nail polish in color 531 Azuré. This is a metallic nail polish that shifts from blue to teal to green depending on how the light hits the color. It’s absolutely stunning, very bright and I love the metallic finish.

I also bought two of the mascaras: 37 Lime Light and 47 Aqua Blue. Lime Light is a bright mint green mascara, and Aqua Blue is a light blue mascara with a silvery shimmer in it. Both give off a lot of color, which actually left me very impressed. Colored mascaras usually tend to be a bit dull and hardly noticeable, but these two are very true to color when applied to your lashes.

The last item I purchased is the eyeshadow pen in color 07 Moon River, again a beautiful name that lured me in. Chanel describes this eyeshadow as delivering a shimmering veil of color, and that’s exactly what it does. It’s a semi sheer creamy eyeshadow which applies very easily, and the shimmery platinum color is very pretty.

Illamasqua Apocalips Lipstick and Tremble Blush

June 11, 2013

Something very natural and wearable, and then something very much on the opposite side of the spectrum. Today I have Illamasqua’s Powder Blusher in Tremble, and Lipstick in Apocalips to show you.

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Tremble and Lipstick in Apocalips

Tremble is described as a soft lilac pink powder blush with a matte finish, but I definitely detect some peach in there too. Tremble is a warm natural looking cheek color which will give you a subtle, healthy looking complexion, and is particularly flattering for paler skin tones. Illamasqua’s blushes have great pigmentation and longevity, and are my favorite brand alongside M.A.C. This has been my go to blush for everyday wear lately.

Apocalips on the other hand, is far from subtle. This is a straight up teal lipstick with a matte finish. Apocalips belongs to the Human Fundamentalism collection, which stands for individuality, non-conformity and rising above the mainstream limitations. It’s a gorgeous, unique lip color, but unfortunately Illamasqua’s lipsticks tend to be very dry and stiff in its application. A good lip balm as a base is definitely recommended!

Chanel Le Vernis in Taboo

June 10, 2013

There are a few mini releases coming out from Chanel this Spring and Summer, and one is called the Revelation de Chanel. This collection includes an already widely hyped nail polish that goes by the evocative name Taboo.

Chanel Le Vernis in Taboo

Color 583 Taboo is described as a violine with red iridescence, and it’s a stunning galaxy type polish. It’s a rich deep purple base that is infused with an iridescent red plum sheen loaded with micro sparkles of red, indigo and purple. In dim light this looks like a plain dark aubergine, but in the sunlight you can see flashes of all these beautiful shimmers and Taboo really becomes something quite magical.

Dior Bird of Paradise Collection

May 24, 2013

Dior’s Bird of Paradise collection for Summer 2013 has a color palette that makes me think of peacock feathers and glistening water. It seems like every shade of blue and green has been incorporated into this collection, and as I am a complete sucker for anything aqua, turquoise, teal or mint green, this collection screamed my name.

Dior 5 Couleurs Palette in Blue Lagoon and Diorshow Liner Waterproof in Aqua Green

The 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette in color 374 Blue Lagoon contains five eyeshadows. The colors are a pastel sky blue, a pastel mint green, a dark teal, a gold shimmered dusty aqua green and a pale pastel yellow green. The colors look gorgeous in the pan, but unfortunately there’s a definite lack of pigmentation. The colors apply quite sheer and muted, which is a shame since it would just about be my perfect palette if the colors had applied opaque.

The Diorshow Liner Waterproof in color 348 Aqua Green, is a deep mint green shimmery eye pencil. As the pencil is quite hard you have to sweep it a few times, but then the color is very vibrant, long lasting and doesn’t smudge.
