I’m really terrible at applying nailpolish, but every now and then I attempt to beautify my nails anyway since there are a few really great colors out there.

Chanel nailpolish in 529 Graphite

I picked up this Chanel nailpolish a few days ago and I love it. It’s called Graphite and it’s a glittery charcoal silver. It applies very smoothly and dries in just a few minutes. My new favorite.

Gareth Pugh for M.A.C. nailpolish in Inert

This Gareth Pugh for M.A.C. nailpolish I already talked about previously, when I posted about all three nailpolishes in the collection. I never posted any pictures of the colors applied on nails though. I’ve been wearing Inert quite a bit, so here’s a picture I took last week. Inert is a creamy mid-tone greyed nude, and I find it to be the perfect everyday color.

Over the past few weeks, the new perfume by Zadig & Voltaire has been thoroughly advertised at our local Sephora. It struck me immediately because of the brand name, the logo and the packaging.

Tome 1 La Pureté For Her perfume by Zadig & Voltaire

The name Zadig & Voltaire comes from the book Zadig or The Book of Fate, a 1747 novel written by French philosopher Voltaire. Voltaire expressed his philosophy through the life of Zadig, a character in his book, and presents human life as in the hands of a destiny beyond human control.

The perfume is called Tome 1 La Pureté For Her, and there is a male version as well. The package comes in the format of a classic white book, with an embossed logo on the cover. The logo features the silhouette of an angel with spread wings, surrounded by a crown of thorns.

The top notes are orange blossom, peony and bergamot. The middle notes are almond milk, jasmine tea and tonka bean, and the base notes are guaiac wood and white musk. It’s a soft, velvety, barely there scent. Very warm and cozy.

Another addition to my Alexander McQueen collection got delivered by the mailman a few days ago. I found this eyeshadow from the Fall 2007 Alexander McQueen for M.A.C. collection on eBay. There’s only a few items from this collection still to be found online.

Alexander McQueen for M.A.C. eyeshadow

The color is called Haunting and it’s a bright blueish turquoise. I tried it on but it’s just not a color that suits me, hence: no pictures. I knew this upfront but I still think it’s pretty nonetheless, and since it was a limited edition I just had to grab it.

Just a quick post to show a new eyeshadow palette I bought recently, Les 4 Ombres by Chanel in color 08 Vanités.

Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quad by Chanel

In the picture above I’ve used a dark grey primer underneath the eyeshadow. The colors I used are the dark purple (1) on the eyelid, and the soft lilac (2) in the corner of the eye. A dark primer gives the dark purple eyeshadow a shinier and slightly more blueish hue, as you can tell from the picture.
I’ve used the eyeshadows on a nude primer as well, but I find that the colors don’t pop nearly as much as when used on a dark primer. A matter of taste I suppose, I myself tend to lean more towards darker eyes. If you prefer a softer look, you should use a nude primer with this palette.

Here’s an overview of the main fragrances I wear, besides the Alexander McQueen ones I posted about previously. They’re in no particular order, as I tend to favor different ones at different times.

Classique perfume by Jean Paul Gaultier

Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier.
Top notes: rose, star aniseed, orange, mandarin and pear liqueur. Middle notes: iris, orchid, plum, ginger, orange blossom and ylang ylang. Base notes: vanilla and woody amber.
This perfume has a hyper feminine, synthetic feel that is in keeping with Gaultier’s design aesthetic. It’s powdery with a light floral musk, slight vanilla, spicy, warm and sweet. Gaultier himself described it as: “One part dusty loose powder, like my grandmother wore. One part that smell you get when you are sitting in the front row of the theater and the curtain goes up, and the hot lights are on the costumes, wigs and sets, and you breathe it all in. And, just to be modern, one part nail polish remover!”

Alien body lotion, perfume and shower gel by Thierry Mugler

Alien by Thierry Mugler.
Top notes: sambac and jasmine. Middle notes: cashmeran and solar accord. Base note: white amber.
Alien is jasmine on steroids. It’s a hypnotic wavering between a traditional jasmine note and unique synthetic notes. The thing about it is not the intense jasmine, but what it becomes after the middle and base notes blend in. The result is a fresh and clean jasmine dipped in something intense, earthy, warm, just a little bit dirty, sweet and even peppery. Alien is sensual and intriguing, and never boring.

Ultraviolet perfume by Paco Rabanne

Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne.
Top notes: osmanthus, apricot, coriander and rosewood. Middle notes: violet, pimento, rose and jasmine. Base notes: patchouli, vanilla, cedar and sandalwood.
Ultraviolet describes itself as a vision of the new millennium. The color violet being the chromatic symbol of femininity. It’s futuristic and sleek, something Aeon Flux might use. It’s a nighttime and winter scent, classified as a refreshing, oriental, floral fragrance.

Ange ou Démon perfume by Givenchy and Pure Poison perfume by Dior

Ange ou Démon by Givenchy.
Top notes: white thyme, mandarin and essence of saffron. Middle notes: orchid, lily and ylang ylang. Base notes: tonka bean, vanilla, rosewood and oak wood.
The name really does this perfume justice. It smells like a vampire in a candy store. It smells like incense. As it drifts on, it flips back and forth from dark to celestial. Ange ou Démon is a paradox of ethereal and innocence, infused with a nocturnal mysterious quality. The scent is transformative, like turning the corner of day suddenly into the night. The mixture dries down to a soft and powdery finish.

Pure Poison by Dior.
Top notes: sweet orange, mandarin, bergamot and jasmine. Middle notes: orange blossom and gardenia. Base notes: sandalwood, cedar and white amber.
Dior is famous for creating magical and seductive perfumes, and Pure Poison is just that. It’s a mesmerizing and intoxicating fragrance, sultry, sweet and powdery. Pure Poison is a modern floral based on a white flower bouquet, infused with woody amber and the lingering allure of sexy musks. It’s something memorable and timeless, like you’re frozen inside of a fairytale.
